Cabrillo National Monument

Cabrillo National Monument was established in 1913, in San Diego, California. It was put in place to recognize Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who landed at San Diego Bay in September 1542. This marked the first time that a European expedition had set foot on what later became the west coast of the United States.

The monument sits high atop Point Loma looking out over the bay, a heroic statue at a dramatic overlook, commemorates this event.

The park offers tremendous views of the San Diego region and excellent opportunities to explore the natural and cultural history of the area. A short walk leads to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. The picturesque structure has been restored to its 1880s appearance.
