The Indiana Transportation Museum, a volunteer-run, non-profit organization, is situated in Forrest Park in Noblesville, Indiana. It is about 20 miles north of downtown Indianapolis. Their mission is to preserve Indiana's railroad history, educate the public in the history of the railroad, and provide the visitors with an opportunity to share the experience of railroad travel. The museum exhibits locomotives, passenger coaches, freight cars and cabooses. Many of the exhibits have been restored by the volunteers. The museum operates a 38-mile track known as Nickel Plate Road. It also conducts a school program named "Railroads in the Midwest" that features a pre-visit classroom workbook, tour of the museum grounds, and a ride on the train. The museum offers a full calendar of railroad events. The Weekend Express, starting from Hobbs Station located at the museum, runs on Saturdays and Sundays. The Hamiltonian, the dinner train, takes riders from Fishers Station to either of two restaurants in Atlanta or Cicero, on alternate Friday evenings. The Pizza Train takes families to a pizza buffet in Tipton on alternate Saturdays.
