Albert Lea, Minnesota, boasts a very special museum for the children and their parents. Called the Storylady Doll and Toy Museum, it contains a huge collection of dolls and toys, of both antique and modern varieties. Some of the dolls date back to the 1800s. The Storylady Doll and Toy Museum is the only doll museum in southern Minnesota. A prime display of the museum is a colorful collection of 400 storybook dolls such as Pinocchio, Cinderella, Snow White, Red Riding Hood, and many other unforgettable characters that have been featured in children books. Each month a special exhibition is held to showcase the collection of a chosen doll collector. The museum also holds vintage toy shows. The museum provides group tours for many of its visitors. There is even the option of arranging a birthday party. Replicas of the antique dolls and toys can be purchased at the museum’s gift shop. Other items available here include designer dolls, puppets, specialty toys, charms, and many other collectibles.
