Monmouth University is located in West Long Beach, New Jersey. It is a private, coeducational residential university offering comprehensive higher education. Graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs are offered. Founded in 1933 as Monmouth Junior College, the university originally served as a two-year institution for area high school graduates. In 1956, it was authorized as a four-year college and renamed Monmouth College. After a few years, master degree programs were added, and in March 1995, the college received its license from the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, to become a teaching university. Monmouth University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It comprises six undergraduate schools - the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Business Administration, the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies, the Honors School, and the School of Science, Technology, and Engineering. There is one Graduate School where high quality masters degree and certificate programs are offered. The campus spreads over an area of more than 150 acres, and includes 53 buildings, of which some are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Woodrow Wilson Hall, the former summer house of President Wilson, serves as the administrative center and is the centerpiece of the campus. The Lauren K. Woods Theatre (a former carriage house), Stafford Student Center, Magill Commons (resident student dining hall and conference center) and the Thomas Edison Science Building are among other prominent buildings. The Life and Career Advising Center provides counseling and outreach services, workshops, and publications.
