Located at 1501 West Riley in Atchison, Kansas, Northeast Kansas Technical College (NEKTC) has a reputation as one of the leading technical institutions in the U.S. As a result of legislation passed by the state and federal government in 1963, NEKTC was established by the Kansas State Board of Education, in 1965. The college opened its gates to the Kansas community in, August 1967. Northeast Kansas Technical College is fully accredited by the Council on Occupational Education. NEKTC programs also are approved by the Kansas Board of Regents, while the Practical Nursing program is fully accredited by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Many other programs and instructors are affiliated with, or in the process of accreditation by professional and/or accrediting agencies. Northeast Kansas Technical College is committed to offering quality technical and academic courses that prepare individuals to achieve their educational goals for employment and advancement in technical careers. The college aims at providing education to meet the technical needs for any person, 16 years of age or older, from any community in the area. Students in high school; students in post-secondary schools; persons who have completed or discontinued their formal education and are preparing to enter a labor market; persons who have already entered the labor market, but need to upgrade their skills; and persons disadvantaged or handicapped, will have ready access to technical education. Currently, 16 technical programs are offered by NEKTC, nine of which are Associate Degree curriculums. The courses are conducted in various divisions, which include business, computer technology, industrial technology, transportation, and service occupation. Programs are arranged to be of maximum convenience to students. Northeast Kansas Technical College is assisted by the General Advisory Council, in program planning, business partnerships, acquisition of equipment, and institution-wide recommendations to the Board of Regents. The college is also verified by a Program Advisory Council, which helps to update the changes in industry, the demands of employers, and ensure all necessary requirements for the bright future of its graduates.
