Wake Forest University, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a private co-educational university known for its programs in the liberal arts. This top-notch institution is ranked among the nation’s universities for its technology resources. Wake Forest University was established by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina in Wake Forest, in 1834. Originally the university was known as the Wake Forest Manual Labor Institute, and renamed to Wake Forest College, in 1838. Over the years, the college added new institutions which include the School of Law in 1894, and the School of Medicine, in 1902. The college moved to Winston-Salem in 1956, as a result of large endowment from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. The college became the fully accredited Wake Forest University, in 1967. Today, the Wake Forest University includes the College of Arts and Sciences and the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Law, the Babcock Graduate School of Management, and the Divinity School. The library network is inclusive of the Coy C. Carpenter Library, the Professional Center Library, and the Z. Smith Reynolds Library. These libraries support the research and the educational needs of students and faculty. The Coy C. Carpenter Library holds more than 1,500 active journal subscriptions, hundreds of databases, numerous books, and countless electronic links to resources. The Z. Smith Reynolds Library has more than 1.2 million volumes and subscribes to nearly 7,500 periodicals and serials. In addition, the university provides both on-campus and off-campus residential facilities depending on the needs of the students. Guest housing facilities are also available.
