Nicholas Biddle was born on (January 8, 1786 to a prominent Philadelphia family. After the Lewis and Clark Expedition returned, he was involved in editing the journals for publication.l He later became the president of the Second Bank of the United States in 1822. In 1832, Biddle lobbied for the early renewal of the bank`s charter, but Andrew Jackson, an opponent of the bank, wouldn`t permit it. He removed government funds from the bank in 1833 and let its charter expire in 1836. With Nicholas Biddle still as president, the bank operated irregularly as a state bank until 1839 when it folded.
