Ivy Tech Community College is the second largest post-secondary institution in Indiana. A statewide, open-access, community college, its main aim is to strengthen the economy of the state and enhance its cultural development, through quality educational programs and services. Formerly known as Indiana Vocational Technical College, the Ivy Tech College was founded in 1963 to provide vocational and technical education. In 1999, it established a community college partnership with Vincennes University to provide liberal arts courses and degrees. In recent years, the college has undergone tremendous changes and it has been now given the sole responsibility for Indiana’s statewide community college system by the Senate Enrolled Act 296. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Ivy Tech College has 23 campus locations in 14 administrative regions including one at Wabash Vall. It is also a member of organizations such as the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers, the American Association of Community Colleges, the National Association of Colleges and Employers, and the Society for College and University Planning. The college conducts academic programs in more than 40 areas of study, such as, Accounting, Building Construction Management, Chemical Technology, Criminal Justice, Liberal Arts, and Machine and Technology. The programs lead to two-year associate’s degrees and one-year technical certificates. Degree programs are offered in six academic divisions including Arts and Design, Business, General Education, Health Sciences, Public Services, and Technology. Most of the courses offered here can be transferred to four-year colleges and universities. Located within the Department of Planning and Education at the college, the Office of Institutional Research performs analyses to improve instruction and support services, increase retention and graduation rates, enhance marketing and promotion of the college, and inform numerous other management decisions. The Student Affairs department caters to the varied needs of the students. Further, Ivy Tech’s Department of Workforce and Economic Development strives to enhance employees’ professional skills, and offers corporate training, continuing education, and workforce certification.
